About California Style
California Style was started in 1991 by founder Lois Streit. It was then called Christmas California Style and was a seasonal, holiday store in Newport Beach, California. It featured handmade items by local California craftsmen.
Lois’ son Michael assisted in the picking and displaying of products in the store while attending school. After graduating from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 1994, Michael went to work a local department store and was hired in to work in their holiday marketing department. Michael continued to help his mother part-time while maintaining his regular job until the chain store ultimately closed. In 1996, Michael and Lois opened a year-round store in Palos Verdes, California called California Style. They chose the area for the reason of larger opportunities and little competition in the South Bay. Michael started in-home design work by accessorizing client homes.
In 1998, Michael and Lois were invited to open a showroom at the prestigious Laguna Design Center. Because of the history of South Orange County and their own love of the area, they decided to move the store to larger showroom in Laguna Niguel, California.
California Style has since blossomed, selling to retail clients but also doing business with some of the most premier Orange County designers. Michael has worked with hundreds of designers on different projects all over Southern California, gaining valuable experience the whole time.
In 1999, at the young age of 26, Michael was invited to become a member of ASID, which he joined. Michael's love for design continued to grow and in January 2000, Michael launched a showroom for two years in the Denver Design Center and, in June 2005, opened a new showroom in Irvine, California called The Designer Furniture Warehouse which featured great Quality Designer Furnishings at 20 – 50 percent off retail prices.
Michael continues his travels all over the world today to import beautiful items from Italy, France and England, especially for California Style. The California Style has been termed by some as "Eclectic Californian." If one tried to more definatively define California Style, it is mainly focused on Coastal and French Country styles with some Tuscan influences. California Style has attracted clients throughout the U.S., including Colorado, Texas, New York, California, and Illinois.

Woody’s At The Beach Annual Wreath Auction. We participate each year in the annual wreath auction by donating a wreath, which has been designed and made by California Style Home Collections. The Woody’s At The Beach Wreath Auction benefits OC Shanti AIDS Resource Center. With 100 percent of the funds raised going, to help Laguna Shanti provide continued support and services to those affected from HIV/AIDS.
SOS – Adopt A Family Festival of Trees. Our donation of a Designer Christmas Tree helps The Adopt A Family Program in providing holiday gifts and food for families in our community. They have been providing help to families for 36 years and over 1,000 families are adopted by donors each year who extend a generous spirit to insure that those in need also celebrate the season. www.shareourselves.org
